Overview

For a full day adventure, get away from Istanbul's crowded streets and visit the Princes Islands. As you approach the islands of Heybeliada and Buyukada, cruise by Topkapi Palace, Leanders Tower, and Uskudar. Take a horse-drawn carriage excursion to learn about the Byzantine Empire lords who once unwinded on these islands. Before heading back to Istanbul, spend some free time to explore on your own and take in the beaches and historical landmarks at your leisure after lunch at a seafood restaurant.

Day 1

Cruise in the MARMARA SEA to PRINCES’ ISLANDS

08:30 a.m pick up from the hotel for Princes islands tour, Cruise in the MARMARA SEA to PRINCES’ ISLANDS by Maritime Lines boat. You will enjoy a cruise in the Marmara Sea. After passing through Heybeliada, Burgazada and Kýnalýada by boat we will stop in Büyükada. We use the horse-drawn carriages because cars are not allowed on the island except for official vehicles. On our journey, we enjoy lunch at a fish restaurant and you will have some free time to explore by yourself.

The islands have taken the name from the exiled princes during the Byzantium era. The Princes' Islands (Isles) is one of the best preserved natural areas and sights in Istanbul. With the intruduction of steamboats during the late Ottoman period around the 19th century, these islands became popular resorts for the rich people who built their wooden houses. Jewish, Greek and Armenian communities were a large part of the inhabitants here. Today, the islands are popular tourist destinations for daily excursions especially in the summer time.

Princess Islands, having an area of 5,4 square kilometers and a population of 7.500 approximately, which goes up to 10-15 times more in the summer. There are some historical buildings such as Aya Yorgi Church and Monastery from 6th century, Ayios Dimitrios Church, Hristos Church and Monastery, and Hamidiye Mosque built by sultan Abdulhamit II.
